According to data from the Statistical Yearbook of Portugal for 2022, made available by the National Institute of Statistics, the risk of poverty increased by 3.2 percentage points in the Azores in 2021, compared to the
the previous year. The results of the Survey on Living Conditions and
Living Conditions and Income Survey indicate that 16.4% of the resident population in Portugal were at risk of poverty in 2021, 2 percentage points less than in the in the previous year (18.4%). slightly higher than that recorded in 2019 (16,7%). The decrease in poverty
covered all age groups, especially the elderly population (3.1 percentage points ). The risk of poverty under 18 years of age decreased by 1.9 percentage points
points (from 20.4% in 2020 to 18.5% in 2021) and that of working-age adults
in 2021) and that of working-age adults decreased by 1.6 percentage points (from 17.2% to 15.6%).
