Two of the nine island of the Azores felt a series of tremblors.  

According to the CIVISA agency, the earthquake was recorded at 9:12 pm and had an epicenter about 39 kilometers west of Capelo, on the island of Faial.

“According to the information available so far, the earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV (Modified Mercalli scale) in the parishes of Capelo, Castelo Branco, and Pedro Miguel (municipality of Horta, Faial island).   The event was also felt with intensity III in the parish of Flamengos (municipality of Horta, island of Faial).

Around 18:00, CIVISA recorded an earthquake magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale that was felt today on the island of Faial, with an epicenter about 41 kilometers west of Capelo. The earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV (Modified Mercalli scale) in the Capelo, Castelo Branco, Feteira and Angústias (municipality of Horta, Faial) parishes. CIVISA added that the event was also felt with intensity III in the parish of Ribeirinha.

With an intensity of III, considered weak, the tremor is “felt inside the house,” and “the pending objects swing,” feeling a “vibration similar to that caused by the passage of heavy vehicles,” describes the IPMA.

Terceira island

According to CIVISA, the first earthquake with a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter scale was recorded at 18:41 and had an epicenter about 4 km northwest of Santa Bárbara, Terceira Island. The earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III on the Modified Mercalli scale in the parish of Santa Bárbara (municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira island).

At 20h12, CIVISA recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.2 on the Richter scale, which had an epicenter about 4 km northwest of Santa Bárbara, Terceira Island.

This earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III on the Modified Mercalli scale in the parish of Doze Ribeiras (municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira island).

20h13 a new earthquake was recorded, with a magnitude 2.4 on the Richter scale and epicenter about 4 km northwest of Santa Bárbara, Terceira Island.

The earthquake was felt with maximum intensity IV on the Modified Mercalli scale in the parishes of Doze Ribeiras, Santa Bárbara, and São Bartolomeu.
