Tony Goulart, a well-known and respected member of the Portuguese-American community in California, is one of the driving forces behind many cultural endeavors of the Portuguese-American Diaspora in this state and one of the founders of the Portuguese Heritage Publications of California, has just published another book, this one dedicated to the history of the Portuguese Marching bands in our state.

The book is dedicated to four parts: Setting the Music Stage, The Opening Act, Marching to a Different Drummer, A Musical Ensemble, and Ending on a High Note.

It is essential to this state’s Portuguese presence, mainly from the Azorean and Madeiran archipelagos. As Tony states: “Portuguese Bands are California History.” So it is a book about the Portuguese, but more than that, it is about California.

Filamentos will soon have a few reviews (in English and Portuguese) about this excellent book. For now, we wanted to call attention to it and ask all of you to consider buying and reading.

To order a copy and get further details, please e-mail Tony Goulart at Goulartt@comcast.net

Bruma Publications and PBBI at Fresno State congratulate Tony Goulart and all who collaborated with him on this monumental effort, and we are delighted to see another publication by PHPC.
