Azores Airlines increases flights between Madeira and North America.

Azores Airlines announced today two new direct connections between Madeira (Funchal) and North America (Boston and Toronto), between June and September next year, whose flights “are already available in the system”.
In a statement sent to Lusa, the airline said that the two new direct connections are between Funchal and Boston (United States of America) and between Funchal and Toronto (Canada).
The new flights “join the connection between Funchal and New York, a bet with excellent results,” it said.
Azores Airlines adds that it will “maintain the current offer of direct flights between Funchal and New York, as well as flights to Canada (Toronto) with a stopover in Ponta Delgada [Azores].”
“The direct flights between Funchal and Boston and Funchal and Toronto will start in June and run until September,” he said.
According to Azores Airlines, “the flights are already available in the system, and tickets can be purchased at the airline’s points of sale (physical and online) and at travel agencies.”
The president of the SATA Group, Teresa Gonçalves, who recently visited the Madeira archipelago, stressed in the statement that “the reinforcement of the air operation between North America and Madeira follows on from the success of the existing connection to New York.”

Teresa Gonçalves also pointed to the success of the air operation between the two Portuguese archipelagos, noting that this year, Azores Airlines’ operation between Madeira and the Azores “is proving to be extremely positive.”
“The focus on direct flights between Madeira and North America is the result of the success of the operation between New York and Funchal,” said Teresa Gonçalves.
Azores Airlines is an airline belonging to the SATA group and whose activity consists of regular air transportation to and from the Azores archipelago.
The company is part of SATA Holding, which also includes SATA Air Açores, founded in 1941 and operates flights between the Azorean islands, and SATA Aeródromos, which manages four of the five airports in the Azores.
“Azores Airlines operates a regular network of destinations between the Azores and North America, Europe and the archipelagos of the Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde,” according to the company.

According to an excellent news piece from O Jornal, part of the Herald News, by journalist Lourdes C. da Silva: Madeirans on the East Coast were happy to hear the news as many have been advocating for a direct flight from Boston to Madeira for a long time.

“Direct flights will boost tourism between the two destinations, as they make it easier for people to visit Madeira, and for Madeirans to visit the USA, potentially leading to increased tourism revenue and cultural exchange,” said Steve Duarte, spokesperson for the Clube S.S. Santíssimo Sacramento, sponsor of New Bedford’s Blessed Sacrament Feast also known as the Madeiran Feast.

This will also be a very positive step for Californians of Madeiran ancestry.
