In October, the municipality of Ribeira Grande, in the Azores, will launch a tourist itinerary identifying the central filming locations of the series “Rabo de Peixe,” produced for Netflix, to boost the fishing village’s local economy.
The information was given to the Lusa news agency today by the mayor of Ribeira Grande, on the island of São Miguel, adding that “the platform is already up and running and in the testing phase.”
“We’re currently uploading some content with some animation so that this route isn’t monotonous, but is an interactive guide. I can tell you that this tourist guide will probably be presented by the end of October,” said Alexandre Gaudêncio (PSD).
“Rabo de Peixe” is the second Portuguese fiction series produced for Netflix and was directed by Augusto Fraga and Patrícia Sequeira.

The series arrived on Netflix in May, and “given its success and media impact, especially through the streaming platform, the municipality decided to work on a tourist guide so that the guide can also impact the local economy,” explained the Ribeira Grande mayor.
According to Alexandre Gaudêncio, via a cell phone application, users will be able to visit the places where the series was filmed, “mostly in the municipality of Ribeira Grande.”
“In our opinion, and also due to the fact that there is already talk of a second season, we think that this itinerary will always be a benefit,” stressed the Mayor of Ribeira Grande, adding that visitors “will be curious” and will visit the municipality and the locations identified in the filming of the series.

The idea is that “people will be able to visit these places on foot or in their cars,” the mayor told Lusa, explaining that the restaurants and leisure areas where the episodes were filmed will be mentioned.
The story of the series is based on an actual event that took place in 2001, when a sailboat sank with half a ton of cocaine on board, much of which washed ashore near Rabo de Peixe on the island of São Miguel.

Based on these facts, a fictional story was constructed about four friends who, possessing several kilos of drugs, want to change their lives and about a police investigation into the shipwreck.
The four friends are played by José Condessa, Helena Caldeira, Rodrigo Tomás, and André Leitão. Still, there are also other names, such as Albano Jerónimo, Maria João Bastos, Afonso Pimentel, Pêpê Rapazote, and Adriano Carvalho.
In addition to Augusto Fraga, there was also editor Marcos Castiel and director of photography André Szankowski.

“Rabo de Peixe” was one of the ten winning projects in a screenwriting competition promoted by Netflix with the Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual.
In June, Netflix announced that the Portuguese series would have a second season.
According to the company, in the first two weeks of airing, “Rabo de Peixe” was in the global top ten most-watched series in languages other than English.
