The second oral history documentary was a massive success at Fresno State. With a packed house, we have a brief intro to the Festa, the documentary, showcased books by Bruma Publications-the publishing arm of PBBI through the University Press, headed by Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Humanities Dr. Sergio La Porta, promoted the upcoming LAEF conference hosted by PBBI and had a lively question and answer session.
We are fortunate to have students, staff, faculty, and community members from various parts of the Valley and the State. Jerry Escobar represented PFSA, and Liz Mota represented Luso Financial and LAEF. Author Anthony Barcellos traveled over three hours to attend the session.
Dean Honora Chapman from the College of Arts and Humanities, one of the three colleges PBBI is part of, remarked on all the PBBI endeavors and emphasized the five publications PBBI did in just one year.

We also had the presence of Dean Bernadette Muscat, from the Fresno State Library, who hosted the event at the library and who has been working tirelessly on our efforts to place all of our oral histories in the library collection. Her vision and her commitment have been of the utmost importance to PBBI-Fresno State. Professor Faith Sidlow, Chair of the Department of Media, communications, and Journalism, was also present, as was Dr. jannell Morillo Associate VP of Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness at Fresno State, Dr. Linda Carvalho-Cooley Professor of Communications at Fresno State and Reedly College, Professor Emeritus David Ross, Benjamin Kirk, communications expert at the College of Arts and Humanities, among others.
PBBI is grateful to all who attended, including many students from our Portuguese courses. We are grateful to Freno State Catering for such an outstanding presentation of appetizers and to Niveria Borges and Carmen Pinheiro (Carmen is president of the Tulare-Angra Sister City Foundation) for coordinating the showcase of Bruma Publications.

We were honored to have the presence of President Saúl Jimenez-Sandoval, who is such a strong supporter of PBBI and all the centers and institutes at Fresno State. The President, who holds a doctorate in Portuguese and Spanish and is fluent in both of those languages, posted on his LinkedIn account: “I’m always in awe at the dynamic and engaging agenda of events that Diniz Borges curates with California State University, Fresno’s Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute! The release of the new second documentary on oral histories of the Portuguese was exciting -who doesn’t like a great Festa; delicious food, good friends, close family, and amazing community building.”

Of course, this documentary could not have come to fruition without the outstanding work, professionalism, vision, and dedication of two esteemed colleagues and dear friends: Professors Candace Egan and Kelley McKoy from MCJ, as well as our dedicated students and, of course, those who were interview for the Portuguese Oral History Project.
