The California State University campus at San Jose commemorates 50 years of Portuguese Language Instruction. We are honored to congratulate this achievement. Of the 23 campuses of the California State University System, the most extensive University System in the United States and one of the largest in the world, with nearly a million students, San Jose State, as it is popularly known, is one of only a handful of State Universities with Portuguese language instruction. Below, you will see the English part of an excellent editorial by Miguel Avila, director of the newspaper Tribuna Portuguesa, describing the program’s history and excerpts from a page dedicated to the upcoming commemoration. As Miguel Avila stated in an e-mail from the Tribuna Portuguesa: “The Portuguese Studies Program at San Jose State University is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The dream of a small group of community leaders has now influenced generations of students. It’s time to recognize the work of the founders and the five professors and to hear about the vision for the next 50 years. Please join us for a Gala Dinner at the Silicon Valley Capital Club on Saturday, October 28, 2023, starting at 6 p.m. See attachments for ticket information and ways to donate to the Portuguese Endowment Trust.” NOVIDADES has the information below.
