The bad weather that hit the Azores last Sunday caused the destruction of the tents installed next to the Praia da Vitória Marina, forcing the cancellation of an economic fair to occur there this week.
Expo Praia – Exhibition of Economic Activities on Terceira Island, promoted by the Angra do Heroísmo Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Praia da Vitória City Council, was scheduled between Friday and Sunday.
According to the DI newspaper, the damage is being assessed, and the initiative should be resumed next year.
The bad weather recorded in the archipelago between Sunday and yesterday morning caused 18 incidents on six islands, according to the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service.
In a statement, Civil Protection said that of the 18 incidents, eight were in Terceira, three in São Miguel, two in Pico, two in Santa Maria, two in Faial, and one in São Jorge.

The incidents were related to “falling trees and structures, damage to infrastructure, landslides and the flooding of a house”, with no casualties reported.
In Santa Maria, São Lourenço was “without access to the water supply network” yesterday due to “a small landslide” caused by the bad weather, and two roads were still closed to traffic, according to a local authority source.
Last Saturday, the mayor of Vila do Porto, Bárbara Chaves, decreed a municipal alert situation due to the worsening of the bad weather and the damage caused by the rain, which forced the rehousing of four people and caused “damage to 10 homes”, vehicles, regional and municipal roads and infrastructure in the water supply network.
A local authority source said, “On Sunday evening, a small landslide in São Lourenço caused a rupture in the water supply network.”
According to that source, access to the water supply network in that area should have been restored yesterday.
The same source also said that the regional access road to Maia Bay and the Almagrinha Municipal Path, in the parish of Santo Espírito, were closed to traffic and that work was underway to clean the roads.
As for the four people who were left homeless, two tourists from the parish of Santa Bárbara, are staying in a hotel and the resident couple from the parish of Almagreira, were relocated by the services of the Azores Social Security Institute to a house, “where they are still staying.”
