The Autonomous Region of the Azores was awarded the Best Sustainable Wine Tourism Destination 2023 at a ceremony held on October 27 in Toulouse, France.
This distinction, awarded by the Iter Vitis association and now in its 5th edition, aims to reward the best practices in the area of wine tourism, as well as initiatives that protect and promote the ancient tradition of vines and wine and the landscape linked to them, as well as innovation and respect for environmental, social and economic sustainability.
Iter Vitis is an international association that was set up in 2007 in Italy and whose aim is to promote the protection and enhancement of the landscape associated with wine production as a tool for sustainable development, at the service of the territory and its players, as well as aiming to be an element of European identity and the testimony of ancient know-how, thus seeking to give a new perspective on wine tourism.
