On Saturday, November 4th, the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, held a “very productive” meeting at the Palácio de Sant’Ana with the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, who has been on an official visit to the region in recent days.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Government highlighted the importance of exchanging views with Santos Silva on “some issues that are pending” in the relationship between the Republic and the Azores.
The constitutional revision, a future revision of the Regional Finance Law, the Law of the Sea, and the situation surrounding inter-island data cables were all on the agenda at the meeting.
In the opinion of José Manuel Bolieiro, who acknowledged that many of the issues discussed concerned the Government of the Republic, the executive branch, rather than parliamentary discussion, it is nevertheless possible to “improve and speed up” the right of the Autonomous Regions to be heard on matters that fall within the competence of the Portuguese Parliament.
Augusto Santos Silva’s visit to the Azores was led by the President of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region, Luís Garcia, who was also present at the meeting held at the Palácio de Sant’Ana.
