The number of unemployed people in the Azores fell by 14.1% in November compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP). The region was one of the only ones in the country to register a decrease in the previous year.
At the end of November, Portugal had 312,310 people registered with job centers, 3% more than in the previous month and 5.3% more than in the same period of the previous year.
“At regional level, in November 2023, with the exception of the Azores (-14.1%) and Madeira (-24.6%), unemployment increased year-on-year, with the highest figure in the Alentejo region (+11.6%),” reads the IEFP report.
At the end of November, 4,844 unemployed people were registered in the Azores, equivalent to 1.6% of the country’s total unemployed.
Compared to November 2022, when the region had 5639 unemployed, the drop was 795 (14.1%).
Compared to October 2023, when there were 4,822 registered unemployed, the region saw an increase of 22 people (0.5%).
