The Liberal Initiative’s (IL) candidacy for the Terceira island constituency in the regional elections on February 4th, headed by Pedro Ferreira, will be organizing four conferences, open to the public, to be held on four Saturdays in January, starting today, the 6th, on “What kind of tourism does Terceira want to have and promote?”.

According to the head of the list, the intention “is to achieve one of the basic objectives of the candidacy,” that is, “to get the people of Terceira thinking about Terceira, its future, what we have to offer, what we need to demand, before we adopt the fatalistic parochialism that has led us into the doldrums.” Thus, explains the candidate, conferences will be held every Saturday this month (the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th), respectively on Tourism, Culture, Health, and the Sea (2 in Angra do Heroísmo and 2 in Praia da Vitória), with the confirmed participation of around two dozen specialists, businesspeople and other personalities of recognized merit and competence to debate these issues.
Editors note: The IL (Liberal Initiative) is a right-wing political party in the Azores, a newer political force in all of Portugal, in the libertarian tradition here in the US. The leader in the Azores s Nuno Barata.
