“Conversas da Diáspora- 50 Açorianos pelo Mundo”, organized by José Andrade, Regional Director for Communities, will be presented in six cities in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
Published by the Azorean publishing house Letras Lavadas, the 560-page book contains 50 biographical interviews with personalities who were born in the Azores and made a name for themselves in the diaspora.
The launch will take place in six cities over six days.
The first session will occur on February 26 in the Santa Clara Civic Center auditorium in São Miguel.
On the 27th and 28th, the sessions will be held in the small auditorium of the Teatro Ribeiragrandense and the Cine-Teatro Lagoense, respectively.
In Faial, the book will be presented on February 29 in the João José da Graça Public Library and Regional Archive auditorium.
The sessions end with two presentations on Terceira Island, on March 1 and 2, in the small auditorium of the Angra do Heroísmo Cultural and Congress Center and at the Praia da Vitória Youth and Arts Academy, respectively.

“Conversas da Diáspora- 50 Açorianos pelo Mundo” features interviews with Azoreans in the diaspora who were born in Santa Maria (one), São Miguel (23), Terceira (10), Graciosa (one), São Jorge (four), Pico (five), Faial (four), Flores (one) and Corvo (one).
They live in the United States of America (28), Canada (10), Brazil (four) and Bermuda (one), but also in Saudi Arabia (one), Cameroon (one), Ivory Coast (one), Denmark (one), Norway (one), East Timor (one) and Vietnam (one).
“This tribute to some of the most notable is also extended to so many others less noticed because they all honor the good name of the Azores wherever they are,” says José Andrade.
The book is an initiative of the Regional Directorate for Communities of the Regional Government of the Azores, which promoted the interviews via social media every week in 2023.
José Andrade chose the guests and conducted the interviews, while Davide Lopes (coordinator of the Communities Support Center) transcribed the interviews and coordinated the technical production team.
