The Fall River-based comedy group Portuguese Kids, made up of Brian Martins and Derrick DeMe- lo, who are already well known in the Portuguese diaspora, especially in North American communities, will have a series of six programs on RTP International (RTPi), as PT announced in January of this year.
The series entitled Portuguese Problems, directed by Brian Martins and Dean Câmara humorously portrays and highlights various aspects of the lives of Portuguese immigrants.
The first program will premiere on Monday, March 18, with the remaining programs to be broadcast weekly at the same time and in a chain with RTP 1, with the potential to be seen in 20 million homes across Europe, North and South America, Africa, and Asia, as well as being available on the RTP Play app and on platforms such as Apple, Android, Amazon, Samsung, and LG.
The Portuguese Kids, with a career spanning two decades in the Portuguese diaspora, especially in the USA and Canada, have already performed in various Portuguese communities in North America and the Azores, making them one of the most exciting comedy projects on the Portuguese-American arts scene in these parts.
The popularity and success of the duo earned José Fragoso, director of RTP1 and RTP Internacional, this comment: “The group has had an extraordinary journey in the Portuguese communities of the diaspora, always with great success,” referring to the series of six programs to be shown on the Portuguese national channel: “It’s a fantastic original program that includes, in addition to this director, other actors who certainly contribute to the quality of the program focusing on the Portuguese-American experience and for RTP International these series represent a symbolic value, since this is the first time we have produced an original fiction format, entirely created and produced outside of Portugal and we are sure that Portuguese Problems will be a great success, both on RTP1 and on RTP International,” said Fragoso.

Portuguese Problems is a six-episode sketch comedy series that highlights the experiences of an ethnic family in the USA, with the main actors being Brian Martins and Derrick DeMelo, as well as Mike Rita, Vanessa Medeiros, Taylor Amarante, Chantell Arraial, and Graça Pinhanços.
For his part, Dean Câmara, co-director and producer, underlined the artistic quality of Portuguese Kids. “When I met this duo I felt that we could create a quality project with great potential for success, thanks to the talent of its actors and the relationship and identification of the content to be presented in these six programs,” said Câmara, who set up his own production company in 2014, Cineasta Digital Productions, having won Emmy Awards for NFL films and other projects such as Dana White/UFC, Shaquille O’Neil, Snoop Dogg and also participated in the Portuguese cooking television series: “Maria’s Portuguese Table,” by Maria Lawton, the Azorean native of Lagoa, São Miguel island.
Portuguese Problems is produced in English and will have Portuguese subtitles.
