The deadline for submitting candidacies for the leadership of the PSD/M came to an end at 6 p.m. today, confirming the two proposals already known, led by Miguel Albuquerque and Manuel António Correia.
The Social Democrats will choose their new leader in the direct elections scheduled for March 21, four days before the President of the Republic regains the power to dissolve Madeira’s Legislative Assembly.
The two candidates submitted their lists for the election of the Regional Political Commission and Secretariat and their proposals for an overall strategy to the PSD/M regional headquarters on time, formalizing their intention to dispute the internal power of the party that has governed the region since 1976. The candidacies and the respective global strategy proposals had to be submitted in digital and paper format.
Militants have until March 8 to pay their dues to be included on the electoral roll.
Only members who have paid their dues by 2023 and registered with the party by March 20, 2023, can vote.
It should be remembered that the two candidacies had to collect a minimum of 200 signatures from members (and a maximum of 250) for them to be accepted.
According to the regulations for the election of the Political Commission and the 19th Congress of the PSD/Madeira 2024, approved on February 21, only the candidates for the Regional Political Commission and Secretariat could present a global strategy proposal. Only these candidates could submit lists for the Political Commission and the Secretariat.
Elections for the Regional Council, the Council of Jurisdiction, and the Boards of the Congress and the Regional Council will occur during the congress, scheduled for April 20 and 21 at the Madeira Congress Center.
