In 2023, 2,385 homes were sold in the Azores, representing 1.7% of the country’s total, 0.1% less than in 2022. The archipelago continues to be the region of the country with the fewest transactions. In the country as a whole, almost 140,000 homes (146,499 homes) were sold in 2023. The data was released yesterday, March 22, by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Of the 2,385 homes transacted in the Azores, 2,181 buyers are tax resident in the country (91.4% of the total), while 58 are tax resident in the European Union (2.5% of the total) and 146 in other countries (6.1% of the total).

According to the study, the transactions of the 2,385 dwellings in 2023 resulted in 351 million euros, which corresponds to 1.3% of the total, the same as in 2022. In this statistic, the Azores were once again the region of the country in last place.

Compared to 2022, in 2023, in the annual rate of change of the indicator of the number and value of housing transactions, the Azores was the third region of the country that fell the most, with a drop of 19%, only behind the Setúbal Peninsula (-25.2%) and the Algarve (-24.6%).
