The body of a man was found by a Lagoa fishing boat on the coastline of the parish of Livramento, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, around 500 meters from the shore, this Wednesday, June 5, at 2pm.
“The body was face up. He had sandals on and was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt,” one of the fishermen on the boat that found the victim told Diário da Lagoa (DL). According to him, the body appeared to have been in the sea for a very short time.
“We were sailing with the boat. We saw something in the distance, above the water. We thought it was two buoys. We started to get closer and saw that it was a body. We called 112 and the authorities. Within an hour or so, the fire department reached us and took the body away”.
The body was transported to Porto dos Carneiros, in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, in Lagoa.
DL contacted the Regional Command of the Azores Public Security Police. According to the Regional Command, the Lagoa police station had received, on Wednesday, “a report of the disappearance of a citizen, by the participant (brother-in-law) reporting his disappearance. The same day, in the afternoon, after confirming the appearance of a body, found by fishermen, and signaled by the Maritime Police, the PSP went to the Port of Carneiros to verify the identity of the body”.
On the same note, the PSP Regional Command also clarifies that the Judicial Police took charge of the incident but does not confirm that the body found is that of the missing person.
