The President of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (ALRAA), Luís Garcia, praised the literary diversity of the Azores, highlighting the book “Avenida Marginal, Ficções,” which brings together short stories by 12 Azorean authors as “a significant example of the richness and variety of Azorean literary production”.
“This work, more than a collection, is a celebration of our cultural and literary diversity,” said the President of the Assembly at the presentation of the book “Avenida Marginal, Ficções,” held yesterday as part of the 94th Lisbon Book Fair in Parque Eduardo VII.
“This diversity not only enriches our literature, but also strengthens our cultural identity,” said the President of the Assembly, emphasizing the importance of “promoting and valuing the voices of Azorean writers, ensuring that the region’s literary heritage continues to grow and prosper.”
On the occasion, the President of the Azorean Parliament also highlighted the importance of the Region being represented at the Lisbon Book Fair, “an opportunity to give visibility to regional authors” and allow “their works to reach a wider and more diverse audience.”
The Regional Secretariat for Education, Culture, and Sport represents the Azores at the Lisbon Book Fair through the Regional Directorate for Culture. Two stands host 1,599 copies, corresponding to 657 publications from 18 participating publishers.
The 94th edition of the Lisbon Book Fair will take place from May 29 to June 16 in Parque Eduardo VII. It will feature 350 pavilions, 960 publishing brands represented by 140 participants, and various initiatives, including autograph sessions, talks with writers, music shows, and an open-air cinema.
