The Mayor of Lagoa, Cristina Calisto, attended the inauguration ceremony of the second building of the São Miguel Science and Technology Park – Nonagon, which makes Lagoa the largest Technology Park in the Azores.
It should be noted that the tender for the construction of this building, built on Lot 32 of the Tecnoparque, was launched in March 2020 by the previous Regional Government of the Azores. The mayor of Lagoa considers it crucial that companies can quickly take advantage of this building, which has spaces for companies and embryonic companies, a meeting room, a cowork space, a fablab, high-performance computing and an open space, intended as a lounge for the entire complex.
On the other hand, this building can house 20 to 30 companies and create around 250 jobs. The work, budgeted at around 7 million euros, was 85% financed by European funds.
For Cristina Calisto, “NONAGON is an important space for all Azoreans, mainly because it is an attractive place for companies and entrepreneurs, as it allows us to attract companies that develop their projects in Lagoa, in areas as diverse as innovation, research, and technology.”
For the mayor, it is now important to plan the development and construction of the third building so that the São Miguel Science and Technology Park can continue to develop.
