On the day of the first anniversary of the Azores Parliament Museum, the President of the Assembly said it was essential to highlight the transformative impact of this space on our community, as a true epicenter of the history and culture of the Azores. In this place, Azorean memory and identity are intertwined.
This museum has already welcomed around 1,500 visitors and goes beyond a simple exhibition venue. It is a meeting place for dialog and learning. The “Conversas de Abril” gatherings, organized as part of the 50th anniversary of 25 April 1974, are a living example of how this space has been a catalyst for civic education, especially among young people. These talks revive our memory of the democratic values that nourish Autonomy and our sense of belonging to this place that we share – the Azores.
“The Parliament Museum enriches the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores,” was how Mota Amaral, the first President of the Government of the Azores, put it.
The autonomous Region of the Azores described this space as a crucial element for promoting citizenship, especially among young people. This message reflects the museum’s vital role in strengthening Azoreans’ connection with democracy and regional autonomy. Over its first year, the museum has welcomed more than 500 children and students from our schools, consolidating its position as a vital educational resource for forming more informed and participatory citizens. Visiting this space is much more than just looking at historical artifacts. It is a journey through the autonomous history of the Azores, an encounter with the ideals and values that underpin our democratic society.

In addition to this essential educational contribution, this museum stands out as a must-see for all who visit our region and wish to gain an enriching insight into the social and political evolution of the Azores.
This museum’s cultural and historical richness makes it a treasure that deserves to be shared and publicized by the people of Faial, residents of the island, and tourist agents whose mission is to promote Faial and the Azores.
After all, the Parliament Museum is not just a reflection of our past; it is a continuous inspiration for our future, said the President of the Azorean Parliament, Luís Garcia.
