PS/Azores Assemblymember José Miguel Toste accused the Regional Government of “harming Terceira” by “progressively postponing the public tender for public passenger transport.”
The Socialist MPs elected for Terceira Island presented a request to the Azores Legislative Assembly to ask the Regional Government about this “long delay.”
José Miguel Toste warned of “the apparent deterioration in the response to public land passenger transport on Terceira Island” and stressed the “urgency of implementing a dignified solution for all passengers who wish to use this service, whether they are residents or visitors.”
“We need to understand what the Regional Government has done, in its capacity as grantor, to ensure that the concessionaire fulfills its public service obligations under the appropriate conditions and in accordance with the contract. That’s why we requested a copy of the concession contract for this service, as well as any amendments. On the other hand, it is important to understand what the Regional Government has done since January 2021 to date to monitor the quality of the public passenger transport service on Terceira Island,” he said.
José Miguel Toste considered it “particularly urgent” to find a solution for passengers who want to travel to Cabo do Raminho and/or Cova da Serreta, “taking into account the ban on the regional road on the Raminho/Serreta stretch and the successive postponement of a solution, by the Regional Government, to a problem that has been going on for more than eight months”.
The member of the Regional Assembly stressed that “it is well known that the Regional Government already has a study of mobility solutions and the restructuring of public passenger transport on Terceira Island”, questioning “why it is taking so long to implement it”.
