The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food announced yesterday that the “AçoresBIO —Organic Farming and Production Forum” will be held on the 22nd of this month in Terceira and will tour the archipelago’s various islands.
“The Regional Government, together with the Agricultural Federation of the Azores, has been working closely with training and experimentation, and over the last three years more than 100 training sessions and various workshops have been held on all the islands,” said the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food, António Ventura.
According to the regional secretary, the aim is to “promote the existence of yet another productive and food option in the Azores and to follow various agro-productive paths, all with an exemplary base.”
António Ventura values “sustainability in the face of our endogenous resources and the need for progressive food self-sustainability.”
In a statement sent to the press, the regional secretariat stresses that “organic production is an added opportunity to diversify the agricultural market and contribute to the paradigm of self-sufficiency in the regional market”.
“The implementation of strategic guidelines in the field of sustainable agricultural production, by taking advantage of the promotion of the diversity and value of regional production, is a commitment of the current Government of the Azores, which aims to sustainably boost not only the agricultural sector, but all other sectors of activity in the Region,” it adds.
The forum is dedicated to producers, agricultural workers, technicians, and the general public as consumers of agri-food products derived from good practices applied in organic production.

The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food recalls that, to pursue the objectives of the European Green Deal and the “Program to Empower Farmers and Promote People’s Literacy in Sustainable Production and Consumption,” as part of “Investment C05-i05-RAA – Economic Recovery of Azorean Agriculture”, of Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR-Azores), the regional directorate for Agriculture, Veterinary, and Food has carried out a public procurement procedure to jointly organize work sessions and information actions, in forum format, which will take place in 2024 and 2025 and will have Organic Production as their theme.
The forum’s session in Terceira will be held online and in person at a venue specified by the regional secretariat.
The “AçoresBIO – Organic Farming and Production Forum” is “a way of promoting and publicizing organic farming, as well as the path that the region needs to follow in this production method,” the press release states.
