The Cineclube Montanha continues its presentations at the Lajes do Pico Municipal Auditorium this September. Four screenings of different themes and styles, for all tastes, with two matinees, on the following Sundays, dedicated to those who like animation and programming for the whole family, and two screenings on Thursday evenings for adult cinephiles interested in “queer” themes, closing the program with the film that won the 2024 Oscar for Best International Film.

This Sunday, September 8, at 4:30 p.m., is an afternoon dedicated to animated shorts, from experiments by film school students to award-winning films from international festivals. “This is an afternoon for the adventurous,” admits MiratecArts’ artistic director, Terry Costa. “The first part is for the whole family, while the second part includes more adult themes.”

The animated feature film “My Naughty Fairy” by Luxembourger Caroline Origer is for the whole family. It was presented on the 15th in a version with Portuguese voices. Violetta, a fairy in training with a special talent for flowers, ends up trapped in the human world after failing an important exam. She meets Maxie, and together, they face challenges and discover the true power of nature.

On Thursday 19th, at 9pm, the Municipal Auditorium of Lajes do Pico hosts the screening of “UFOs, Monsters and Utopias: Three Queer Short Films”, which is playing in cinemas across the country. “Between Light and Nothing” by Joana de Sousa, ‘Under Influence’ by Ricardo Branco, and ‘Immaterial Girl’ by André Godinho will be presented in a program that traces an alternative path through universes that come together in a new constellation of desires, fears, and struggles. These three cinematic gestures explore techniques and narratives – from science fiction to horror, looking for new ways of looking and fantasizing about other possibilities.

Closing the September program on Thursday, September 26, at 9 p.m. is “The Interest Zone,” the latest film by Jonathan Glazer, who has won several awards as a filmmaker, including the Best Award at the Cannes Film Festival and the Oscar 2024 for Best International Film and Best Sound. The daily life of a German family whose home is adjacent to Auschwitz has undoubtedly become one of the most brilliantly terrifying films of the decade.

With the support of the Municipality of Lajes do Pico, for the Cineclube Montanha sessions, you just have to show up. There are no tickets, and admission is free. The Municipal Auditorium of Lajes do Pico is located in the town center, and the doors open half an hour before the screening.
