The Mayor of Praia da Vitória confirms that the municipality, through Praia Ambiente, is finalizing the application for support from the Azores 2030 community program for the contract to replace the water network on the Regional Road between the Cargo Terminal and the Casa do Povo in Vila das Lajes.
According to Vânia Ferreira, the Azores government will support the intervention by paving and upgrading the stretch, which is one of the town’s central roads.
The Mayor, who visited Vila das Lajes on Tuesday afternoon, the 10th, as part of the Approaching Local Power program, also confirmed that the investment will include intervention in the water network and the paving of Canada da Pechita/Rua do Ramo Grande, Rua Santa Filomena, and Rua Pe. Lino Fagundes, Poço do Gil, Canada do Codorniz and Serra de Santiago.
“It’s an intervention that will improve the water supply in Vila das Lajes and, at the same time, solve several accessibility problems that have been dragging on for years. Once again, in a rigorous and thoughtful way, we are giving concrete answers to the inheritance we have received,” said Vânia Ferreira.
As part of the visit, the Mayor also confirmed that the application for the Lajes Business Park will be submitted in August.

“It’s an investment under the Promoting Economic Development, Research and Innovation axis of the Azores 2030, budgeted at 2.5 million euros, to be carried out in two phases. This is an old process, wrongly dimensioned in the past, so it never came to fruition. With the changes introduced, which create a space that is suited to local and borough needs, we believe that the conditions have been met for this process to be resolved,” she explained.
Vânia Ferreira also announced that the municipality will include in an application for European Union support the requalification of Casa das Pias as a Temporary Accommodation Center in the event of a disaster.
“And we’re preparing a maintenance intervention at the Aldeia Nova School, in accordance with the necessary improvements identified in the assessment carried out,” she said.
The Mayor recalled the investments already made in Vila das Lajes, such as the new lighting and the asphalting of the access to Campo Manuel Linhares Dias, the refurbishment of the Caldeira Swimming Pool, and the partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Praia da Vitória to manage the local ATL.
As part of the visit, the Municipal Executive visited several vulnerable areas in Ribeira dos Paes, as well as meeting with the institutions of Vila das Lajes.
