The Angra do Heroísmo Chamber of Commerce (CCAH) expressed its “great satisfaction” at the award of international Venice TV Award for the SIC television series “Senhora do Mar,” produced by SP Televisão.
“We are proud to see the Azores associated with this soap opera of undeniable quality, which has now won this award for the best television productions of the year,” the business association said in a statement.
For the CCAH, “the award is a milestone not only for national fiction, but also for the projection of the Region, in general, and of Terceira, São Jorge and Graciosa, in particular, on the global audiovisual scene, as has already happened on the island of São Miguel with the Netflix series ‘Rabo de Peixe.’”

According to the entrepreneurs, the series, starring Sofia Ribeiro and Afonso Pimentel, “has played a crucial role in promoting Terceira, São Jorge and Graciosa as tourist destinations of excellence.”
“Through its engaging narrative and its portrayal of the natural beauty and cultural richness of these islands, the project has attracted the attention of national viewers and captivated international audiences,” they say.
They stress that it is “a daily, permanent tourist poster with a long duration on an open channel, which is extremely advantageous for promoting the destination.”
According to the business association, “this kind of visibility is vital for the development of tourism and the local economy, since each episode of the soap opera, which shows scenes from these islands, represents another incentive for visitors to discover their nature, history, culture and gastronomy.”

The Angra do Heroísmo Chamber of Commerce also believes that “triumphs like this represent opportunities to further boost Terceira, São Jorge and Graciosa economically, leveraging the unique quality of their tourism product.”
According to the CCAH, “bringing the soap opera to the region was not a cost, but an investment with future gains in mind.”
Entrepreneurs believe that “the economic return on this type of production for hotels, restaurants, cultural agents, transportation services, among others, far exceeds the previous investment that was made.”
“The Azores have enormous potential as a backdrop for television productions, and strategies for attracting initiatives of this type to television or streaming platforms should be promoted and developed, given the success of this option on a global scale,” they conclude.
