In Ponta Delgada, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food gave an “extremely positive” assessment of the campaign to publicize and promote products certified with the Azores Brand seal. The Azores Brand Management and Promotion Office encourages this initiative, which runs until Sunday.
António Ventura was speaking during a visit to the Pingo Doce supermarket in Valados. He highlighted that 43 hypermarkets and supermarkets from all the islands in the region had signed up, which “translates into greater participation than last year.”
With the slogan “Choose what’s ours,” the Azores Brand campaign included 87 tastings in 33 of the stores where it was present. The aim was to encourage consumers to choose what is produced locally, contribute to the development of Azorean companies, and promote their products, especially food products.
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary updated the number of seals and certifications with the Marca Açores seal and noted their growth.
He stressed: “there are currently 6,439 references certified with the Marca Açores seal, in a universe of 311 companies and of these certifications, 6,088 refer to seals awarded to food products, 200 to non-food products, 112 to services and 39 to participating establishments.”
“Greater consumption of local products always translates into an increase in the quality of life of all Azoreans, because we increase wealth and grow in sustainability and food safety,” he said.
“We are promoting the consumption of what is ours, as well as short marketing and consumption circuits, so that Azoreans know who produces it, where it is produced and the quality with which it is produced, and this brings benefits for human health, because we have more nutritious agri-food products, and they are produced more naturally,” he said.
