Several Azorean producers have recently dedicated themselves to growing hemp and cannabis, and their production is already considered a success.
According to Graça Castanho, President of the Assembly of Confraria Canábis Portugal, “effectively, on the Azorean islands, we have mobilized a group of producers who have sown, harvested, and are currently processing the raw material obtained.”
“With the support of the Regional Government, within the scope of the PRR, we are also finalizing training on hemp cultivation on the islands of S. Miguel, Terceira and Pico,” he adds.
With this in mind, the International Cannabis Brotherhood Portugal, Neuron Bonus, and their regional, national, and international partners will hold the 4th edition of CannAzores—Transatlantic Hemp and Cannabis Forum, a free-entry event that will take place on October 4 at the Associação Agrícola de S. Miguel from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the participation of experts from various fields.
This initiative follows the cultivation of hemp in the Azores and the training that the Confraternity has offered in S. Miguel, Terceira, and Pico to professionals directly or indirectly involved in producing, processing, and marketing hemp and cannabis. The themes/activities highlighted at this IV CannAzores will be the following:

1) Discussion and Analysis of the First Hemp Cultivations in the Azores with DGAV Authorization and the Respective Raw Material Processing Processes; 2) Applications for Hemp and Cannabis Production Licenses in the Azores and Madeira; 3) Business Plans for Hemp and Cannabis Cultivation; and 4) Presentation of the International CannAzores Project: Cannabis from the Azores to the World; and 5) Exhibition of Cannabis Products for Therapeutic Purposes. We will also be offering a Cannabis Lunch for 15 euros.
In complete alignment with Agenda 2030, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the vast documentation produced by the UN, the European Union, the IMF, the World Bank and the WHO, hemp cultivation, a reality in the Azores, is of paramount importance for the economy and sustainability, providing soil regeneration, water depollution, CO2 capture, obtaining bioplastics, biofuel, lithium enrichment, a source for paper, building material, rope, food, drink, construction, cosmetics, supplements, packaging, insulation, canvas, textiles, medicines, etc., concludes the organization.
