For the first time in the history of Azorean tourism, the number of overnight stays will have exceeded half a million in September.
According to the SREA’s Azores Tourism Indicator (ITA), around 508,500 overnight stays are expected to have been recorded in the region in September in all tourist accommodation establishments (hotels, local accommodation, and rural tourism).
This estimate of overnight stays is 8.0% higher than the final figure for the same month last year (470.9 thousand).
In addition, the table below shows data on domestic and international AC and TPA purchases and passengers disembarked on domestic and international flights, complementing the analysis of the evolution of the tourism sector in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The September figures confirm that seasonality is starting to decline in the Azores, and tourism is expected to be higher in October than last year.
Last year, the Azores only reached half a million overnight stays in July, thus confirming the greater demand for the Azores outside the two primary summer months, traditionally July and August.
It should be remembered that this year, tourism in the region is being boosted essentially by foreign tourists since domestic tourism has slowed down, at least from January to September.
