The Biscoitos Verdelho Wine Brotherhood is organizing the 2nd Biscoitos Verdelho Wine Days from Wednesday to Saturday.
“These days have a strong focus on viticulture and the oenology of verdelho wine itself. There will be panels related to how wine is valued, government policies to support viticulture in the Azores and the role of wine associations,” said José Aurélio Almeida, Grand Master of the Biscoitos Verdelho Wine Brotherhood.
The event will take place in the parish of Biscoitos, Angra do Heroísmo, and Praia da Vitória and is “aimed at everyone, with free participation.”
“It aims to promote the exchange of information and debate on the aspects that are most relevant and most important to the Biscoitos verdelho wine and naturally to some aspects associated with it, such as viticulture,” said José Aurélio Almeida.
In addition to the days this month, the brotherhood will hold an enthronement with the entry of new members.
“The renewal of the brotherhood, the distinction of those who are supporting and defending the cause of Biscoitos’ vinho verdelho is essential if we are to continue to play our role, our mission of defending and enhancing the vinho verdelho of Biscoitos and all the quality wine of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, as well as all its contexts,” said the grand master.
The event kicks off on Wednesday at 7.30pm with the opening of an exhibition of paintings by Martim Cymbron entitled “Uvas” (Grapes), which includes a painting of red wine grapes.
The exhibition will be open to the public until mid-December in the main hall of the Biscoitos Parish Council.

Work only begins on Thursday, precisely at 9:15 a.m. in the Salão Nobre da Junta de Freguesia dos Biscoitos, with a themed session on precision viticulture. Visits to the Biscoitos vineyards are planned for the afternoon.
On Friday, at the Angra do Heroísmo Interpretive Center, the work will begin at 9.15 a.m. with a thematic session on the enology of the Verdelho wine from Biscoitos, followed by a thematic panel on the valorization of wine. Visits to vineyards in Terceira are also planned for that day.
Finally, on Saturday, the work will take place in the Auditorium of the Professional School of Praia da Vitória. At 9:15, there will be a thematic session on government policies and support for viticulture in the Azores. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the role of wine associations, and the conference will close with a wine dinner.
“There’s also the opportunity to mark World Wine Tourism Day, through guided tours of the vineyards, both in Biscoitos and in other areas of the island, and through a wine dinner, which will take place on Saturday evening,” said José Aurélio Almeida.
The initiative is supported by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food, the two municipalities of Terceira Island, and the Biscoitos Parish Council.
