Quinta do Martelo – Ethnographic and Gastronomic Center, in Terceira Island, Azores, has been included for the first time in the list of the world’s 100 most sustainable hotels and resorts.
They are part of the Top 100 SustainableHotels& Resorts of the World 2024, a distinction from the LuxuryLifestyleAwards, “properties that stand out in combining sustainability with luxury and offer guests exceptional experiences while preserving and protecting the planet.”
“Being part of the Top 100 Sustainable Hotels & Resorts of the World for the first time is a source of pride for us, but it also gives us more responsibility, the main one being to excel in what we already do well and to raise the standards of things that could still be improved,” said the founder and owner of Quinta do Martelo.

Gilberto Vieira said the sustainability values underpinning this award have “long been defended and practiced” at his unit.
“Quinta do Martelo is a pioneer in the Azores in defending and valuing tourism in rural and nature areas, and for over 35 years it has been recognized by various national and international bodies as a success story in the articulation between commercial tourism and the rigorous preservation of tradition, the environment and the cultural and ethnographic truth of the environment in which it was born and develops its activity,” he stressed.
Quinta do Martelo has already been awarded numerous national and international distinctions, such as the Green Key award, which it has held for 18 consecutive years, or the national “Chef’s Garden” award, which distinguished its own production through organic farming of food products, which are then served at meals.
