“Yes, I’m a candidate for the independent movement ‘Ponta Delgada para Todos’ in the next local elections for Ponta Delgada City Council” – this is how Sónia Nicolau, now a former PS member, introduced herself yesterday at a press conference to announce her candidacy.
“I’m grateful for and recognize the courage of the group of citizens who signed the open letter published a few days ago,” she added, only to acknowledge afterward” how difficult it is to support what is outside the system or to come out with your own opinion, and for these reasons and so many others, courage is decisive for the municipality we want for ourselves, for our children and grandchildren and in respect for those who worked and left this heritage of people and territory.”
Sónia Nicolau says, “the first guarantee I leave here is that my leadership will not repress the freedom of each person.”
The second guarantee is that “this civic movement will present solutions to the problems of the people and the territory.”
The “Ponta Delgada for All” movement will only run candidates for the City Council and the Municipal Assembly.
“The third guarantee is that we will have a financially and ecologically conscious and responsible campaign,” she said.
“We want to regain citizens’ trust, reduce abstention and revive our municipality! We want to come together to win! A competent team, the right proposals and projects from many to many. We will work towards a Ponta Delgada for All: a city of people, a territory of sea and lagoons, with solidarity, innovation, sustainability and openness to the world!” she concluded.
