The President of the Socialist Party of the Azores, Francisco César, argued this Monday that Christmas is an opportunity to “strengthen empathy and work together” in favor of “a fairer future, with more equality and solidarity” for all.
In a Christmas message addressed to all Azoreans, the Socialist leader stressed the importance of reflecting on the challenges that many face, especially during this festive season.
“For many, young or not so young, Christmas is a time of joy, celebrated in the warmth of their homes, in good health and surrounded by family and friends. However, it is also a time to remember those who face difficulties: who live without a home, who struggle to meet their basic needs, who are sick or far from their families,” Francisco César stressed.
Stressing that despite the many reasons to be proud, there are still many challenges to overcome in the Azores, the socialist warned of the need to “prevent and combat poverty; open up new paths of hope and future for young people and guarantee the care and social protection that the sick and elderly deserve and need”.
“For all these reasons, Christmas is yet another opportunity for us to strengthen our empathy with everyone and to drive forward a lasting and permanent commitment to work together for a fairer future, with more equality and more solidarity.”
At the end of his message, Francisco César wished all Azoreans, “whether they were born in the Azores or chose the Azores to live in,” a Christmas “filled with joy, health, and hope for a better future.”
