After years of disrepair, the historic Hotel Pico in Madalena will finally be rehabilitated. Tecnovia has acquired the property and plans to restore it, marking the end of an era of abandonment and degradation. The information was published in the January 3rd edition of Madalena’s Ilha Maior newspaper.
The hotel, which ceased operating two decades ago, fell into a state of complete abandonment, even serving as a ‘home’ for homeless people. Despite several unsuccessful attempts to buy it, Tecnovia, a company with extensive experience in construction and hotels (it recently acquired the Hotel da Graciosa), promises to restore the building to its former glory.
The rehabilitation of the Hotel Pico represents the recovery of a historic heritage site and the creation of new jobs on the island. Tecnovia, with a vast track record in infrastructure projects throughout the archipelago (roads, airports, and buildings), will ensure that the work is carried out to a high standard, giving new life to that area of Vila da Madalena. The reopening of the hotel restaurant is still being studied.
