The Regional Fisheries Director announced that around 700 fishermen in the Azores will receive 415.64 euros in financial support to compensate for the loss of income due to the bad weather.
“We verified the Fundopesca grounds by analyzing the discharges registered in the region’s auctions which, in this case, showed that there was an effective loss of income for professionals in the period of time that was considered, between December 3 and January 17,” said Andreia Henriques.
The amount of support will be awarded to each Azorean fisherman who can prove that they did not work during that period, and the investment is expected to be around 350 thousand euros. The fishing associations will now submit lists with the names of the potential Fundopesca beneficiaries, which will then be cross-referenced with the data from the auction discharges and with Social Security data so the support can be granted.
