Cristina Calisto was elected Coordinating Secretary of the Socialist Party of São Miguel, with 98% of the votes, in a vote last Saturday in all seven island sections.

After the results were known, the Vice-President of the PS/Açores said she felt “honored by the trust placed in her by the militants of the PS/São Miguel” and expressed her commitment to “defending solutions to the problems facing the island of São Miguel.”

“São Miguel, being the largest and most populous of our islands, plays a central role in the context of the Azores, not only as an economic engine, but also as a reference for social, cultural and political development,” said the socialist, to reaffirm her commitment to working alongside the militants to ensure that São Miguel ‘continues to be a positive reference in the development of the Region, facing the challenges of the present and the future’.

Stressing the importance of political action that is “inclusive, responsible and transformative”, Cristina Calisto highlighted her experience as a mayor and her knowledge of São Miguel’s reality to underline her willingness to work “for São Miguel, for the Azores and, together with you, to help build a New Future”.

On the occasion, the socialist also pledged to continue the work of “proximity, collaboration and dialogue” that have been the pillars of her political career.
