The President of the Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, took part today in the plenary meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the Azores (CESA), marked by the swearing-in of the new members of the body, now led by Piedade Lalanda, a university professor who served in a PS government.
The leader of the Azorean executive highlighted the importance of CESA as a space for dialogue and social consultation, underlining its fundamental role in promoting participatory democracy in the region.
“This is a body whose vision has one objective: to strengthen participatory democracy in the autonomy of the Azores. To ensure that the leadership of civic opinion can be organized and aggregated through the Economic and Social Council of the Azores,” said José Manuel Bolieiro.
The Government of the Azores thus reaffirmed its commitment to guaranteeing the necessary conditions for CESA to carry out its functions independently and effectively, providing the appropriate means within the region’s logistical and budgetary possibilities.

He also stressed that the executive is fully available to support the Council in fulfilling its mission, underlining the need for “joint work that promotes a democratic and inclusive debate” on the economic and social issues that impact the Azores.
The President of the Government also praised CESA’s contribution to the region’s sustainable development, recognizing its importance as a privileged forum for dialogue between the various sectors of civil society. In this sense, he reinforced his confidence in a reformist perspective and in the Council’s dynamic action, which will enable it to keep up with the challenges and opportunities of the nine islands of the Azores.
