A considerable rock and mud collapse occurred on Monday morning, February 5, on the alternative Forest Path to the Raminho Regional Road on Terceira Island. The situation resulted from the continued instability of the slopes in that area.
The Regional Directorate for Public Works, with the support of Tecnovia, the company responsible for improving the road, intervened immediately to restore traffic conditions. Work to improve the alternative route will continue, guaranteeing a viable alternative to the regional road.
Meanwhile, the contract to stabilize the slope of the Raminho Regional Road is in the final stage of the administrative award process and is awaiting submission to the Court of Auditors.
The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility, and Infrastructure warns of the risks associated with the area’s instability, aggravated by the ongoing seismic crisis of the Santa Bárbara volcano since 2022 and the adverse weather conditions of recent months. The population is advised to exercise the utmost caution when traveling in the area and respect the signs and instructions from the authorities.
The Secretariat also stresses the need for responsibility in the communication and actions of all the entities involved, underlining that people’s safety is the priority.
