Edelweiss, the Swiss airline belonging to the Lufthansa Group, will open a new route between Terceira and Zurich this summer. The operation will have one flight a week and start on June 25, Thomas Ahlers, General Sales Director of the Lufthansa Group in Portugal, told Publituris.

“We’re starting our sixth destination in Portugal. From June 25, Edelweiss will connect Terceira, in the Azores, to Zurich with a weekly flight,” he revealed in response to a question from Publituris.

According to the head of the Lufthansa Group in Portugal, “Terceira marks the sixth destination for the Lufthansa Group in Portugal and the second in the Azores islands, apart from Ponta Delgada.”

However, the new route between Terceira and Zurich is not the only news from the Lufthansa Group airlines for next summer in Portugal, as Discover Airlines, Eurowings, and Brussels Airlines are also planning new flights to Portugal.

“The Lufthansa Group is planning to start several new routes in 2025,” adds Thomas Ahlers, stressing that the German aviation group has ‘very good news for Portugal’ this summer.

Thus, in addition to Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, another carrier of the German aviation group, will open a new route between Funchal and Munich, with two flights a week starting in the summer timetable.

Eurowings, the group’s low-cost carrier, will also connect Faro to Berlin up to three times a week and operate again in Ponta Delgada, with a route from Dusseldorf.

Publituris concludes that Eurowings will also launch nonstop flights between Lisbon and Hanover and between Porto and Cologne. Thomas Ahlers will also highlight the route that Brussels Airlines will be opening to Funchal from Brussels once a week. This will be the first time that the Belgian airline flies to Madeira in the summer.
