Yesterday, the Regional Legislative Assembly of the Azores rejected the regional tourist tax proposed by PAN MP Pedro Neves.
The Parliamentary Representation of PAN/Açores, which presented the initiative, expressed its “deep displeasure at the rejection of the legislative initiative aimed at creating a regional tourist tax, to be applied to municipalities in the region that have not implemented a municipal tourist tax.” The initiative presented by the party, along similar lines to the initiative approved in 2022, and revoked in 2023, “provided for the implementation of a tourist tax in all municipalities of the Region, in the amount of three euros, aimed at passengers aged 14 and over, non-residents of the Azores who disembarked at regional airports for tourist purposes, avoiding fragmentation and disparity due to its municipal application, promoting a cohesive and integrated approach that would benefit the Azores as a whole and guaranteeing a sustainable financing model for the preservation and enhancement of natural resources as the Region’s main factor of attractiveness. ”
