
On Tuesday, nine earthquakes were recorded in the space of an hour between the islands of Terceira and São Miguel.
The epicenter was located on the D. João de Castro Bank, a volcanic seamount.
According to the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA) website, nine earthquakes were recorded between 5:06 p.m. and 6:06 p.m. on Tuesday.
The first two were 3.5 on the Richter scale, followed by two more with a magnitude of 3.3.
Seismographs recorded five more tremors in the region: 2.0, 3.2, 3.1, 2.2, and 2.5 on the Richter scale.
The last and tenth earthquake occurred at 6.54 p.m. and reached 2.5 on the Richter scale.
