Yesterday, Thursday, the Bensaude Group and the University of the Azores (UAc) signed a cooperation agreement to conduct a Strategic Study to evaluate the “local, regional and national impact of the University of the Azores.”
The ceremony occurred in the University of the Azores’ Great Hall of the Rectory Building. It was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors António Bensaude de Castro Freire, the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors Tomás Bensaude Fernandes, the Director Tiago Castro Freire, the Chairman of the Executive Committee, Vitor Cruz, and the Rector (Presidente) of the University of the Azores, Susana Mira Leal.
According to the information provided, as part of the celebrations for the University of the Azores’ 50th anniversary and the close collaboration between the Bensaude Group and this higher education establishment, the need and opportunity were identified to draw up a study that would allow a clear and objective assessment of the University of the Azores’s real impact on the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The study, which will be carried out by the consulting firm Ernst & Young (EY), aims to analyze the economic and social value of UAc in its various aspects, including the economic and social impact of operational activity, the qualification of human capital in the labour market, the effect on knowledge and innovation, and the qualitative impact on society and regional development.
Recognizing the mutual relevance for creating value in the Azores, the Bensaude Group, according to the document, took full responsibility for carrying out this study, ensuring its funding, and coordinating the activity with EY.
The University of the Azores has continuously grown, expanding its academic offerings and investing in strategic research centers. This development is reflected in the quality and diversity of its courses and its ability to attract international partnerships. It has established itself as an important driver of innovation and economic development in the region.
Collaboration between the University of the Azores and the Bensaude Group has been essential for developing innovative projects and promoting research, development, and innovation activities. This partnership strengthens the link between higher education institutions and the job market, contributing significantly to the region’s economic and social development, as can be read in the press release.
