Nominations for the Azorean Diaspora Council are open from today until April 10.
The process, which will culminate in the election of the 19 councillors who will make up the Azorean Diaspora Council for the 2025-2029 term, is being carried out through the Azoreans in the World website(https://acorianosnomundo.azores.gov.pt/), a platform managed by the Regional Directorate for Communities. The website registers Azoreans living outside the region.
Anyone registered in this digital space can submit their candidacy to represent the geographical area in the Azorean diaspora that corresponds to their residence.
After the period for submitting candidacies for Azorean Diaspora Councillor, the electoral lists for each geographical area will be validated between April 11 and 14.
The validated candidates then have a month to present their candidacies before the election, scheduled for May 20-24.
This consultative body, chaired by the president of the regional government and created in 2019 and formally established in 2021, aims to ensure the participation, collaboration, and consultation of all those who wish to contribute to the Azores’ development project.

Director’s Note: The CDA-Concelho da Diáspora Açoriana has been represented in California for the last 4 years by Zeto Carvalho, who has given selflessly to bettering the relations between the Azores and California. Zeto has brought out the issues many would rather sweep under the table. He has done an outstanding job. It is also great to see young Americans of Azorean Ancestry involved in these boards.
Translated to English as a community outreach program from the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) and the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures Department (MCLL) as part of Bruma Publication and ADMA (Azores-Diaspora Media Alliance) at California State University, Fresno, PBBI thanks Luso Financial for sponsoring NOVIDADES.
