This Friday, the Socialist Party candidate for Ponta Delgada City Council, Isabel Almeida Rodrigues, defended the importance of being “Together, for Ponta Delgada” to reinforce her commitment to a fairer, more prosperous, and more sustainable city.
Speaking at the opening session of the PS/Azores Municipal Days, Isabel Almeida Rodrigues highlighted the pressing challenges that affect the daily lives of the citizens of Ponta Delgada and presented the main lines of the Socialist proposal for the municipality’s future.
The main priorities identified are housing, health, fighting poverty and social exclusion, fighting addictions, security, and sustainable economic development.
“Access to housing remains an obstacle for many, especially young people and the middle class. The dream of home ownership is becoming more and more distant,” warned the candidate, advocating a strategic plan to increase the supply of affordable housing and regulate the market, ensuring fair prices.
Isabel Almeida Rodrigues also stressed the urgency of integrated responses to the situations of poverty and vulnerability that persist in the municipality, including addictions and social exclusion.
“We want to create a support network with specialized services, without stigmas or exclusions. Security begins with social justice, with access to housing, education and health,” she said.
The PS candidate also proposes a clear focus on economic growth and mobility, sustainable tourism, support for local entrepreneurship, the modernization of SMEs, and creating an efficient and accessible public transport network.
“Mobility is critical for development. We want a modern public transport network that serves companies, workers, students and all citizens.”
Active consultation with the population, parishes, and local agents will be central to the Socialist municipal program. Isabel Almeida Rodrigues advocates a participatory process to build concrete solutions to regional challenges.
“Ponta Delgada is ours. Let’s build an inclusive city, where quality of life, social justice, economic development and innovation go hand in hand.”
Isabel Almeida Rodrigues closed her speech with an appeal to unite around a project of transformation and hope for Ponta Delgada and the Azores: “Our commitment is to the people. Together, for Ponta Delgada, we will work for a better future for all.”
