On the 11th, a municipal holiday, Lagoa Town Council will present the work “Os 500 anos do concelho da Lagoa – Álbum de Memórias” (The 500 years of the municipality of Lagoa – Album of Memories) from 8pm, the day that also marks the 503rd anniversary of Lagoa’s elevation to town and county seat.

The presentation will take place at the Francisco d’Amaral Almeida movie theater. This work aims to highlight the municipality’s memories and historical facts throughout its 500-year history.

It can be used to discover the town’s origins and urban evolution, as well as the main historical moments and traditions in the construction and safeguarding of the social, economic, cultural, identity, and heritage memory, through imagery, using photographic records, architectural plans, maps, and documents complemented by the respective captions.

This album results from extensive research in archives, bibliographies, and with the local community.

The research was based on collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, selection, comparison, digitization, and identification. It also included the collaboration and involvement of institutions, associations, and private individuals, who provided photographic records and oral testimonies that, in some cases, helped to recover collective memories for the (re)construction of local history over the centuries.

It should be noted that the more than seven hundred images featured in the work belong, for the most part, to the Foto Madrid fund. The work is organized into eight chapters, each subdivided into several subchapter.
