An image of the island of Pico by reporter Maria João Gala, published in Volta ao Mundo magazine, has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious World Food Photography Awards, considered the most important award in world gastronomic photography.

In this edition, thousands of entries were submitted from more than 70 countries, with the Pico image standing out as part of an extensive report on the cover of the magazine’s January edition. The photograph depicts a group of cows in the middle of the road, surrounded by a green landscape, with the majestic mountain in the background.

In addition to Maria João Gala, three other Portuguese photographers are also in the competition. The winners will be announced on May 20th in London. All the finalist works will be displayed in the same city, at the Mall Galleries, between May 21 and 25.
