The Bishop of Angra, Armando Esteves Domingues will address the theme “Hope in the Risen Lord” at the fifth meeting of the “Dialogues in Time” cycle, on May 6, at 8:30 p.m., at the Museum of Franciscanism, in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel.
“To talk about ‘Hope in the Risen Lord’ during the Easter Season is to delve into the heart of the Christian faith, founded on the certainty that death has been conquered and life always triumphs,” explains the organizers of the ‘Dialogue in Time’ cycle.
Bishop Armando Esteves Domingues is the 40th Bishop of Angra and was appointed by Pope Francis on November 3, 2022, having entered the diocese on January 15, 2023.
The initiative, promoted as part of the Jubilee of Hope by the Catholic Institute of Culture, in partnership with the Ribeira Grande Ombudsman’s Office and the Museum of Franciscanism, will also feature a musical performance by the choir of the ombudsman’s office on the north coast of São Miguel.
“Just as on the road to Emmaus, the Risen Lord continues to walk alongside everyone, even when we don’t recognize him. Easter hope is knowing that he is present, especially at difficult crossings, in moments of doubt and weakness, regardless of the pains of the world,” the organization said in a statement.
The Diocese of Angra’s “Dialogues in Time” cycle of conferences, gatherings and debates, open to believers and non-believers alike, aims to “make known, deepen and discern the reasons for Christian hope, based on the signs of the times that reveal a wounded humanity hungry for love and looking for meaning in life”.
This initiative, organized by the Catholic Institute of Culture in partnership with the Church’s ouvidorias, parishes, services and movements, is taking place monthly throughout this Holy Year 2025, the Jubilee of Hope, and proposes “an encounter with Christ, through dialogue, debate and theological study, always respecting each person’s individual freedom”.
The “Dialogues in Time” are touring the islands of the Azores. They take place at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Peace (May); at the Diocesan Shrine of the Lord Good Jesus, in Pico (June); at “Aldeia da Esperança”, in São Jorge (July); at the Angra do Heroísmo Prison (September); in Flores (October) and in Horta (November), ending with a gathering at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Conception, in Terceira (December).
All the events are free and open to the public, except for the one in Angra do Heroísmo Prison in September.
The Catholic Church is observing the Holy Year 2025, its 27th ordinary jubilee, a celebration that takes place every 25 years. The theme is “Pilgrims of Hope,” which began last Christmas Eve with the opening of the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica by Pope Francis.
