Professional and personal reasons were cited for the resignation of Professor Carlos Amaral from his current government position. Still, according to Açoriano Oriental newspaper, incompatibilities with the vice-president of the regional government may have contributed to this decision. When contacted by the newspaper, the professor said he would not make any statements.
Carlos Amaral had already held the position during the previous term of the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition government, when its regional directorate was part of the Regional Undersecretariat for the Presidency, led by Pedro Faria e Castro.
Remember that the Regional Directorate for European Affairs and External Cooperation has been under the Vice-Presidency since the XIV Regional Government took office.
Carlos Eduardo Pacheco Amaral has a degree in Philosophy from Amherst College, a Master’s in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, both in the United States, and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of the Azores.
Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair of the Azorean Academy, awarded by the European Commission, is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of the Azores. His teaching and research activities extend to various universities in Portugal, Europe, and the Americas.
