The Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo welcomed the “5th Wine Cities Competition” jury members to the Noble Hall of the Town Hall during their visit to Terceira Island.
The visit is part of the “Cidades do Vinho 2025” competition, which will take place on the island of Pico between yesterday and May 11.
The initiative is organized by the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV) and the Association of Wine Routes of Portugal (ARVP), bringing together wines from all over the country to be evaluated in this competition—the only one in Portugal that jointly promotes wines and their territories of origin. During their stay in Angra do Heroísmo, the jury members visited the vineyards and wineries of two producers in the municipality – Rui Martins and Dimas Pires – where they had the opportunity to learn about the production methods, local grape varieties, and the combination of tradition and innovation that characterizes Terceira’s wine industry. The visit also included moments of contact with the municipality’s historical and landscape heritage, which is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
This initiative reinforces the Azores’ relevance in the national wine production landscape and contributes to appreciating the quality and uniqueness of the wines produced in the archipelago.
