The Açorianíssimo Fair is taking place in all Continente stores in the Azores (from the 13th until the end of the month) – according to information from the Bensaúde Group. According to a note sent to our newspaper, the fair “is full of products from the Azores, from Azorean companies” and “represents all regional suppliers who have products from the Azores.”
The Press Release sent to us (DI newspaper) even says the initiative was organized as “a hymn to the regional economy.” The Açorianíssimo Fair is only taking place in Continente stores on the Azores islands and is not planned for stores in the rest of the country.
COVERING IMPORTS
According to official information, the Azores are making efforts to replace imports with products that can be more efficiently produced on the islands. However, regional production of onions, cabbage, parsley, and other products in many areas is still low.
For example, according to information already published by DI, the island of Terceira produces onions for less than a month’s consumption. This is considered negligible production by those who sell to the final consumer. On the contrary, bananas are one of the products in rapid expansion, with the island of Terceira producing enough bananas to satisfy consumption for seven months of the year.
