Through the Regional Directorate for Communities, the Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities signed financing contracts this week for Portuguese Courses for Speakers of Other Languages 2025 on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira.
The contracts were signed by the entities responsible for promoting the courses: CRESAÇOR —Migrant Support Office, chaired by Artur Martins, which provides training in São Miguel, and AIPA—Association of Immigrants in the Azores, chaired by Leoter Viegas, responsible for the course on Terceira Island. The signing, which took place in Ponta Delgada, was attended by the Regional Director for Communities, José Andrade.

These courses are aimed at adult foreign citizens residing in the Autonomous Region of the Azores whose mother tongue is not Portuguese. They aim to contribute to the full integration of the immigrants living in the archipelago through their professional and personal development.
The course began on Terceira Island on March 17, after working hours, with the participation of 20 trainees aged between 24 and 76 from nine nationalities: USA, Russia, Ukraine, Finland, Iran, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Philippines, and Spain.
The training began on the island of São Miguel on April 7. Twenty participants aged between 22 and 57 were from nine countries: Belarus, Colombia, the USA, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine.
Portuguese courses for speakers of other languages are promoted by the Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities through the Regional Directorate for Communities and the Regional Directorate for Education and Educational Administration. They are regulated by Ordinance 49/2012 of April 27, amended and republished by Ordinance No. 56/2014 of August 19.
